Project Aćai - Acai dessert bowl in Holland V

The aćai berry, hailing from Brazil, now has a full-fledged shop centred around it. Project Aćai is the first joint in Singapore that is fully dedicated to the aćai  (pronounce ah-sa-ee) berry. The cafe is currently in soft launch phase. It's located just right opposite 2am desert bar; a short walk from Holland Village Mrt Station. Apparently, the aćai  berry is a superfood touted to have anti-aging properties and truckloads of good-for-yous like antioxidants. To make things even better, it is said to be extremely low in sugar.

The shop interior has a clean concept centred around the colours of grey and brown. It looks like any other cafe from the outside. Seating is sufficient, but not plentiful. Order at the counter and you can watch as the girls put together each smoothie/yogurt bowl. The menu is devoid of anything else except for the healthy shake and fruit bowls.

The menu is limited to just the 3 sizes of Super Bowl and 3 varieties of smoothies. The Small/Medium/Large superfood bowl costs $6.80/$9.30/13.50. Not cheap, but like all 'health' foods, it comes at a premium. Especially this one, with the berry easily perishable and flown in all the way from Brazil. There are also smoothies available, available at a premium.

The presentation resembles a pretty flower. Digging into the bowl, you get a scoop of icy cold slush that is the aćai berry base in blended form. The toppings include bananas, grapes, blueberries, chia seeds, goji berries, coconut shavings and bee pollen. It just comes together on your spoonful as a load of sweet with some occasional crunchiness from the cocoa nibs or goji berries, unless you consciously differentiate each fruit.

Large Superfood Bowl ($13.50)

This will do as a guilt-free dessert, or even meal replacement for those who want it, albeit at a premium pricing. Worth a try for its novelty, but its sustainability will hinge on those into healthy eating.
